A master’s thesis is submitted to the College of Engineering – Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Kerbala, and tagged (Calibration of flow equations through regulators using
Computational fluid dynamics CFD modelling) as well as extracting a special equation for calculating the discharges according to the difference in the height and width of the gate, and also in the cases of the single gate and the multi-gates. The thesis was submitted by the student Hamid Ahmed Mahdi.
This study performs a simulation in CFD software and compares the discharge through water facilities accessed in previous researches, for the two flow states at total opening and partial opening of the regulator gate.
The thesis aims to know the most effect of the extracted dimensional coefficients on the discharge, as well as the effect of the height and width of the gate on the discharge. In addition, to do a calibration of the extracted discharge of the previous studies, using laboratory experiment, with the extracted discharges from the CFD program. Finally to establish a general equation for calculating the discharge that can be relied upon, based on coefficients available in the governmental irrigation departments. The thesis recommends using the CFD program to extract the discharge because it has the necessary tools for this purpose.
The thesis was approved by the discussion committee, which consisted of Assistant Professor Dr. Iser Tohme Joudeh, Chairman of the Committee, Assistant Professor Dr. Amin Muhammad Salih Amin (member), Assistant Professor Dr. Haider Hussein Alwan (member) and Professor Dr. Hossam Hadi Alwan (member and supervisor).
